Dickinson College Baseball Training Facility Carlisle, PA
Dickinson College takes great pride in its 25 athletics programs, where dedicated Red Devil student-athletes pursue excellence in the classroom, competition, and in local and global communities. The varsity athletic programs compete within NCAA Division III as members of the prestigious Centennial Conference.
Investing in their teams is evident by the quality of the college’s athletic facilities. The newest opened in March 2020 as a training facility for the 40-person Red Devilsbaseball team. It is located two miles west of the main campus at Dickinson Park, home to the varsity baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s soccer teams.
The project encompassed renovating a 20,000-square-foot section of the Wentzel building, a metal prefab sports and storage facility.
The transformational design introduced flexible, multiuse spaces and program adjacencies, incorporating three full batting cages, pitching machines, two half-cages, and three full bullpen pitching mounds. The program also included a sports medicine area, a kitchenette, and a 1,000-square-foot locker room equipped with 39 lockers, a team meeting room, showers, and restrooms.
GBE provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services to Murray Associates Architects on the project. Although we were able to reuse the existing HVAC equipment, the new use required changing a cooling-only unit to a heat pump and rearranging the diffuser and ductwork layouts.
