Ritner Steel Carlisle, PA

Founded in 1948 as Carlisle Steel Supply, the AISC-certified company evolved over the years and was renamed Ritner Steel, which specializes in the fabrication of structural steel to support residential, commercial, and industrial markets in the central Pennsylvania region.

When company growth forced administrative staff into a pair of trailers next to their production facility, Ritner called on Chris Dawson Architect to design a single-story office building to accommodate them. Natural light floods the interior through clerestory windows, and exposed HVAC ductwork and electrical conduit compliment a backdrop of custom steel roof trusses.

Working directly for the owner, we coordinated MEP design closely with the architect and Ritner Steel. GBE was responsible for HVAC load calculations and system design, including controls and condensate drain systems; design of water, waste, and gas systems; electrical design inclusive of interior, exterior, and emergency lighting; power distribution system design; and determining “box and conduit” locations for data, security, telephone, and CATV systems.
