GBE provides mechanical engineering, plumbing engineering, electrical engineering, fire protection design and alternative energy solutions. As our name implies, our focus is on green and sustainable design methods. We advocate a holistic approach to building system retrofit and replacement projects, which demands consideration of life cycle costs, durability, functionality and ease of maintenance. We provide these services in both traditional design-bid-build and design-build scenarios through all phases of a building project, from the early planning stages through construction administration and LEED certification documentation.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Our mechanical engineering services range from feasibility studies, conditions assessments, energy modeling, and value engineering to full mechanical system design and documentation. Our experience encompasses a variety of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and chilled and hot water systems and their related equipment components, which we configure to suit the building program, user needs, budget, and energy goals.

PLUMBING ENGINEERING

As with mechanical engineering, our approach to plumbing engineering emphasizes the long-term value of front-end discovery through conditions assessments and feasibility studies. Our plumbing expertise extends to domestic water, rainwater, fuel oil, natural and liquid propane gas, medical gases, vacuum, compressed air and wastewater piping, as well as wet and dry fire protection systems.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Electrical services range from feasibility and value engineering studies, conditions assessments and energy modeling to full system design and documentation. Our experience includes normal and emergency power distribution, interior and exterior lighting, fire alarm, security, data, access controls, and solar panel arrays and power grid tie-ins.

OTHER SERVICES

We also offer commissioning, retro-commissioning, capital improvement planning, forensic evaluation and project management services.

GBE’s founder, Russ has been providing design solutions for mechanical and plumbing systems in a variety of building types since graduating from the University of Pittsburgh (go Panthers!) with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. In 2017 he applied his wealth of experience gained from 25+ years to building a firm that delivers technical expertise with integrity and views each and every project as unique. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and Maryland. In his spare time Russ, a father of three and soon of two stepsons, enjoys soccer, movies, video games, and although few and far between, quiet nights with fiancée Rusen.

Eric T. Huth, PE, CGD, CPD, LEED AP

As a graduate of Penn State with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, Eric may be Russ’s rival at a football game, but not at GBE, where they’ve been partners since 2017. The partnership comes easily, having worked together at a previous company for nearly five years. Eric, who specializes in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design, is a registered Professional Engineer in seven states. He is a member of ASHE, ASPE, AEE, and NCEES and as a LEED Accredited Professional is an advocate of building systems that conserve energy while enhancing comfort, operations and maintenance. When he’s not hard at work, the father of four puts his mechanical skills to use helping out one of his kids who is an avid drag racer, as well as being a marching band dad, a field hockey dad, and a devoted husband.

Christian has more than 20 years of experience in design of electrical systems for educational, commercial, industrial, healthcare, residential, correctional, and water and wastewater treatment markets.

He earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in electrical engineering at the State University of New York at Binghamton and has an associate degree in applied science with a focus on electro-mechanical engineering technology from the State University of New York at Alfred.
